World-Class Quality Allied with Humanitarian Effort

“At San Patrignano, we believe that falling in love with the land and the vine helps one to fall in love with life.” -- Andrea Muccioli, Owner

While it may represent one of the most unusual ventures in the Italian wine world, winemaking was among San Patrignano’s earliest initiatives and has become this rehabilitative community’s best-known and most successful endeavor. The wines of San Patrignano, distributed around the world, have earned accolades from numerous highly-regarded sources, including American wine critic Robert Parker and Gambero Rosso, Italy’s foremost wine guide.

The vineyards of San Patrignano range across the Coriano hillsides in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna province, less than three miles from the Adriatic Sea. Vineyards comprise approximately 260 acres, all planted within a single block. Internationally-renowned consulting winemaker RICCARDO COTARELLA provides his services pro bono to San Patrignano, bringing an added sense of strategic vision to San Patrignano’s winemaking program and a heightened level of consistency at a winery already considered by many to belong in the first rank. Recent developments include construction of a newly-opened cellar, expansion of densely-planted vineyards, rigorous clonal selection and ongoing investment in agricultural equipment and machinery.

Though the chief focus of winemaking at San Patrignano is to provide residents with new skills, it is also regarded as a means of “reawakening light in a dark soul through passion and caring.” As such, winemaking at San Patrignano embraces an unfailing dedication to quality, from the community’s immaculately maintained vineyards to each step in the vinification and packaging processes. San Patrignano wines are created from vineyard to bottle to label design by members of this special community and have led many to discover a newfound passion for life:

“For me, making wine is like raising a child – it demands careful nurturing and the investment of enormous personal effort. In the process, you are rewarded with a deeper understanding of evolution and growth. Wine is a noble matter, a living thing. I’ve learned to give importance and meaning to all the working steps it entails, to each and every process. All are equally important. Wine cannot be fully appreciated if one ignores the effort that went into making it. Wine has taught me life. To me, wine is San Patrignano.” -- Federico, San Patrignano resident
