Ey Single Vineyards is a collection of Grenache-based wines from five independent growers in the Roussillon district in southwest France. Each is an authentic expression of the soil and soul of their specific vineyard site, selected by Roussillon native Jean-Francois Ey (pronounced like the letter A).
Jean-Francois and the winemakers he works with are Catalans, a people with ancient roots and a rich cultural heritage in this Mediterranean region where France and Spain meet.
Grenache has been enjoying a renaissance over the past decade as pioneering young winemakers have shone the spotlight on the exciting results Grenache can achieve in the Roussillon’s singular terroir. A handful of outstanding examples have been carefully assembled under the Ey label.
All five Ey wines are the result of an environmentally-friendly approach ranging from sustainable agriculture (minimal use of artificial fertilizers and pesticides) to fully organic vineyards for two of the wines. These two organically grown wines are made in accordance with biodynamic principles, which take into account the impact on nature of energy forces arising from the phases and influence of the moon and the stars. This viticultural philosophy is rooted in ancient agricultural practices that only now are starting to be scientifically understood.
